On August 24-25, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea Kang Kyung-wha will come to Russia on a working visit. On August 25, she will hold talks with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Important issues of bilateral cooperation, a schedule of political contacts and cooperation in practical areas will be discussed during the visit.

The ministers will discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, including in the context of the efforts to defuse and reduce tensions in the region. We operate on the premise that the problems in this area must be resolved exclusively through political and diplomatic means. The path to peace and stability in Northeast Asia is based on integrated settlement with active participation of all parties concerned. Such an approach would create a favourable political environment, which is necessary to begin practical work on forming multilateral mechanisms for ensuring security and cooperation in Northeast Asia on an equal and non-discriminatory basis for all participants.

The Republic of Korea is an important partner of Russia in the Asia-Pacific Region, with whom we strive to develop equal and mutually beneficial cooperation.

We value highly the current level of bilateral relations, the constructive nature of cooperation in practical trade and economic cooperation, regional security and the Korean Peninsula issues.

We highly appreciate the statements by President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in about his administration's commitment to strengthening the entire range of relations with Russia.

For our part, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the further development of the Russian-Korean multifaceted cooperation in order to give it new quality and dimension.

The meeting of the presidents of the two countries on the sidelines of the Third Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held in Vladivostok on September 6-7, is expected to give a powerful boost to the development of bilateral relations.

We note with satisfaction the high-level contacts that have taken place this year. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin visited Seoul on July 26-27, where he took part in the second Meeting of the Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments (a joint initiative by the speakers of the State Duma and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea). On May 23-25, the Ambassador of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Korea took part in an international meeting of high representatives for security issues, which took place in the Tver Region. Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea Kim Hyun-chong met with Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Galushka, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alexey Gruzdev, and Eurasian Economic Commission Minister for Trade Veronika Nikishina.

Work continues on improving the legal framework underlying bilateral relations. Plans are in place to consider the prospects for signing a number of joint documents in various spheres.
