The Minister’s telephone conversations
Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi
On December 21, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi at the initiative of the Jordanian party.
The ministers exchanged opinions on current regional affairs, focusing on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement in light of the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The ministers also talked about the situation in Syria in the context of efforts to maintain a ceasefire, expand humanitarian assistance to the people and revitalise the intra-Syrian talks based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254. They pointed out that the consistent efforts towards this taken at the Astana platform, where Jordan has an observer status, as well as the initiative advanced by Russia, Iran and Turkey to convene a Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi are designed to create conditions for a more constructive process in Geneva.
The ministers also discussed practical aspects concerning Russian-Jordanian cooperation.
