Press release on the results of the meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers

On May 23-24, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in a meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The ministers discussed in detail preparations for the meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and scheduled to be held in Tashkent on June 23-24, 2016. They endorsed and approved in principle the draft documents and resolutions that would be submitted to the summit, including the Tashkent Declaration for the 15th Anniversary of the SCO, the Plan of Action until 2020 for the implementation of the SCO Development Strategy until 2025, and others.

The meeting participants discussed the procedure for granting India and Pakistan the status of SCO members, as well as the prospects for considering an identical application from Iran, as part of the Organisation’s expansion.

As they exchanged views on the key regional and international problems, the ministers confirmed their common commitment to build up cooperation in the fight against old and new challenges and threats to security. They also emphasised their common goal to strive for the intensifying  of economic and humanitarian cooperation within the Organisation on all fronts.
