Mr President,

Colleagues,

I would like to thank President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov for receiving the foreign ministers of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). This points to the personal attention, which you and your country pay to promoting cooperation within the SCO. Despite the very difficult geopolitical conditions that my colleague and friend Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi has just referred to, the potential of our organisation grows unswervingly. It is emerging as an increasingly authoritative and influential member of the modern system of international relations. We are effectively cooperating in the political sphere as well as in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and extremism. There are good prerequisites for promoting a comprehensive security system on the SCO platform.

Our interaction in the field of agriculture, transport and infrastructure is taking huge strides. In practical terms, we are investigating matters concerning financial support for our project activities, including a conversion to mutual settlements in national currencies.

We see good prospects in the area of innovation, high technologies and digitalisation. Let me note the successful functioning of the SCO University and the strengthening of ties in healthcare, culture and tourism.

The number of countries that would like to obtain an observer or dialogue partner status is growing. This also confirms the popularity of our organisation as an important and balanced international player.

We highly appreciate what our Kyrgyz friends are doing in the way of high-quality preparations for the upcoming SCO summit. I am confident that the decisions that are being prepared to be adopted by the heads of state will make it possible to hold the meeting of the Council of Heads of State (SCO CHS) with good results. I have no doubt that the summit will demonstrate unity of SCO approaches to the key global and regional issues.

For Russia, all of this is of much importance because we will take over the SCO presidency after the Council of Heads of State will hold its meeting here in Bishkek next month. President of Russia Vladimir Putin has already defined the priorities for the upcoming period and approved a relevant plan of events that will be presented to our partners. We will do our best to ensure continuity by building up on the results achieved by Kyrgyzstan.

Thank you.
