Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry, Moscow, June 24, 2019
Mr Foreign Minister,
We are delighted to welcome you in Moscow. We meet often – we last saw each other in April – but the developments in the region and in the world justify the frequency of our meetings.
Today, I look forward to discussing with you in detail the state of our bilateral relations, which are making good progress in all areas. Then we are to hold the fifth round of our 2+2 dialogue with the defence ministers.
The 2+2 consultations between Russia and Egypt are a unique format in our relations with Arab countries. Its launch and regular use underscore the nature of our relations, which are developing as a strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation.
We need to approach bilateral issues, the region’s problems and international affairs guided by the understandings reached by our presidents during their meeting last year in Sochi and their recent meeting on the sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum in China.
I think our meeting today is very timely in all senses. I am sure that it will be productive.
