Opening Remarks by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during talks with Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo, Moscow, June 3, 2019
Mr Minister, colleagues,
We are delighted to welcome you to Moscow. We met in New York just recently, in September 2018, and we now have a good opportunity to continue our dialogue in a more expanded format.
Colombia is an important partner of ours in Latin America. Last year, we marked the 160th anniversary of the state-to-state relations and are open to expanding our partnership in regional and international affairs.
I am confident that the subjective factor will also help us make progress. I am talking about the fact that you used to be the Ambassador to the Russian Federation in 1999-2001. The fact that you know our country so well will give the necessary boost to our bilateral relations. In addition to this, we also rely on your family traditions given that your father was the Ambassador of Colombia to the Soviet Union in the second half of the 1980s.
Today, we are prepared for a constructive and businesslike exchange of views on all matters.
