Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's opening remarks during talks with Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, Tashkent, May 2, 2019
Mr Kamilov, colleagues,
On behalf of the delegation and myself, I would like to express appreciation for the proposal to visit hospitable Tashkent to take part in tomorrow's multilateral event, and to make the working visit that we are starting today.
I fully support the character of our relations as friendly, trust-based, allied, and reaching the level of strategic partnership. This was all clearly confirmed during the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan in October 2018.
The talks in Tashkent were a key event in our bilateral relations last year; this year, our leaders' upcoming contacts will likewise define all areas of Russia-Uzbekistan cooperation. I would like to note that that the visit was extremely productive in terms of the agreements reached on improving foreign policy coordination, boosting economic and particularly investment cooperation, and working together to create a wide range of mechanisms for expanding contacts between people.
We are looking forward to today's talks with great pleasure. We will certainly outline areas that require additional attention to fully implement everything that our leaders agreed on.
Once again, thank you for your hospitality.
