Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, Bonn, February 17, 2017
I am happy to meet with you. We maintain regular contacts through bilateral meetings and multilateral talks. Today, we have a nice opportunity to consider at our level how to implement the agreements reached during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Japan.
In 2017, many meetings have already been held in a bid to translate these agreements into practice. In January, Japanese MPs led by Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry and Minister for Economic Cooperation with Russia Hiroshige Seko paid a visit to Russia. There have been a number of contacts between deputy foreign ministers. We’ve made a good start. I am confident that this will enable us to prepare a busy agenda for upcoming contacts this year between the President of Russia and the Prime Minister of Japan.
