A meeting took place in Paris on May 23 between Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Yakovenko and the newly elected Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Angel Gurria.
In the course of the meeting questions of the intensification of engagement by our country with the Organization, including that under bilateral cooperation programs, as well as the prospects for the accession of new countries including Russia to this influential body of economic collaboration among leading countries of the world were discussed.
Angel Gurria noted the importance of the active participation of Russia, aiming to join the OECD, in the work of this Organization and in the activities of its specialized committees and working groups.
In addition, questions were also touched upon relating to carrying out structural reforms, including those in the secretariat of the Organization itself, strengthening the budget component of the OECD and expanding international cooperation to counter the risks and threats to economic and social development.
