International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with ICRC President Peter Maurer, Moscow, November 23, 2016
We are pleased to welcome you to Moscow. You often visit us, which reflects the active and trust-based nature of our cooperation. Recently we have been working hard together on the humanitarian aspects of the Syrian crisis and the situation in southeastern Ukraine. We highly regard the traditionally unbiased, conscientious and depoliticised activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Russia has long been at the fore of international humanitarian law. We highly appreciate the adherence of the International Committee of the Red Cross to its standards and principles.
We are very happy to see you. Tomorrow you have scheduled meetings with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and the leadership of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief.
I am convinced that the talks during your visit will be fruitful and will give a new impetus to our fruitful cooperation.
