International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
Opening Speech of Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs S. V. Lavrov before the Meeting with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross J. Kellenberger, Moscow, 19 March 2012
Dear Mr. Kellenberger, we are glad to see you in Moscow. The Russian side appreciates humanitarian activity of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in various parts of the world, your personal contribution to such work, and generally, efforts of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Especially I would like to mention your contribution to the development of relations between ICRC and the Russian Federation.
I can assure you that Russia is interested in the continuation of cooperation on practical realization of the international humanitarian law. We hope that the kind traditions established by you will be continued by P. Maurer, who will come into office of the ICRC President this July.
We see it important today to exchange opinions on further joint steps, which can be taken by ICRC and the Russian Federation, including in the interests of settlement of the most acute humanitarian problems of the Syrian Arab Republic.
