Mr Minister,

We are glad to welcome you to Moscow. We value our Italian partners’ interest in further developing Russian-Italian interaction. Italy holds a special place in the system of Russia’s foreign policy relations. Our cooperation is based on firm traditions and successful experience in many areas. Our political dialogue, including at the top level, has been developing rapidly despite recent problems, along with ties between our parliaments and cooperation between our ministries and agencies, including foreign policy ones.

We discussed many of these issues at our meeting in Bonn on February 17. Your current visit gives us an opportunity to take a closer look at bilateral and international issues, especially considering that Italy has become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Russia and Italy are members of several other international organisations such as the OSCE and the Council of Europe, as well as the formats that have been created for the purpose of settling crises in Syria, Libya and other regional countries.

All of us are worried about the developments in eastern Ukraine and in other regions of Ukraine. We would like our Western partners to insist more forcefully on the implementation of the Minsk Agreements.

Once again, welcome to Moscow.
