Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov’s meeting with Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed
On February 27, Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov met with Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who arrived in Moscow to take part in the 6th Middle East Dialogue Conference held by the Valdai International Discussion Club.
During the meeting, the officials expressed grave concern over the escalation of the armed conflict in the Republic of Yemen, and stressed the need for those involved in the crisis to take prompt action in order to break this vicious circle and stop trying to resolve the existing differences by military means. They agreed on the need to resume the inter-Yemeni talks as soon as possible taking into account the interests of all the leading political forces in the country. They also emphasised the importance of taking prompt action to improve the well-being of the Yemeni people who are facing social and economic hardship by, among other things, lifting the air and sea blockade.
Russia noted the need for bold action to combat terrorist groups who control large territories in southeastern Yemen.
