On April 10, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by phone with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu at the latter’s initiative.

The ministers continued their substantive discussion of the situation in Syria from an earlier telephone conversation on April 7.

Sergey Lavrov reiterated that Washington's act of aggression against Syria under a far-fetched pretext is unacceptable and underscored Moscow's firm intention to push for an impartial international fact-finding investigation into the incident at Khan Shaykhun on April 4. Mevlut Cavusoglu agreed that such an investigation needs to be conducted.

The ministers noted that the Syrian crisis cannot be resolved militarily and that join efforts are needed in order to maintain the cessation of hostilities and step up the intra-Syrian negotiation process, including at the Astana and Geneva platforms, based on UN Security Council resolutions and the decisions of the International Syria Support Group.
