Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya Fayez al-Sarraj, New York, September 22, 2017
I am glad to see you again. This is a good opportunity to discuss the situation that is unfolding around settlement in Libya. The last time we met was in March, when you visited the Russian Federation. Much has been done since then, and efforts have been taken to coordinate actions between you and Commander of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar. It would be interesting to hear where things stand now.
We are convinced that not a single conflict can be settled without inclusive national dialogue. Therefore, we actively welcome all actions taken by the Libyan sides with international support in order to ensure national reconciliation.
I would like to hear your assessments. This is important for us.
