Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya Ghassan Salamé
On September 15, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya Ghassan Salamé, who is in Moscow on a working visit.
The officials held a detailed exchange of views on developments in Libya in the context of UN-sponsored international mediation efforts to settle the Libyan crisis. They discussed intra-Libyan settlement prospects with an emphasis on the importance of continuing an inclusive dialogue involving the main political forces, tribal groups and regions of the country.
The Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to continue actively facilitating the successful advancement of the political process in Libya in order to achieve mutually acceptable solutions that will create conditions for the country’s sustainable development as a single, sovereign and independent state.
On the same day, Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held extensive consultations with Mr Salamé, following which the parties agreed to continue regular contacts on Libya.
