Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al Safadi
On July 18, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Ayman Al Safadi at the latter's imitative.
The foreign ministers exchanged views on topical regional issues with an emphasis on a Syrian settlement in the context of the July 13 telephone conversation between President Vladimir Putin and King Abdullah II of Jordan. The foreign ministers discussed measures taken by Russia and a number of other countries, including Jordan, to establish a ceasefire in Syria, in particular, in the context of implementing the memorandum on establishing de-escalation zones, which was signed by representatives of Russia, Jordan and the United States in Amman on July 7. The ministers emphasised the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
Mr Lavrov and Mr Al Safadi exchanged opinions on the need to overcome the impasse in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement by resuming direct talks on all aspects of the final status, including the Jerusalem issue.
