Comment by the Information and Press Department on the armed attack at the Har Adar settlement on the West Bank
On September 26, a Palestinian gunman opened fire near Har Adar, an Israeli settlement located on the West Bank of the Jordan River, killing two Israeli security guards and one border police officer. The attacker, who came from a nearby Palestinian village, was shot dead.
Moscow strongly condemns this terrorist attack. There is no justification for such attacks, whatever the reason behind them.
We are convinced that in addition to measures that should be taken to protect the safety of Israeli and Palestinian civilians, efforts must be also taken as soon as possible to overcome the dangerous deadlock that is hindering the achievement of a lasting and fair Israeli-Palestinian settlement. Moscow confirms its resolve to continue providing assistance towards a settlement in this complicated situation through bilateral efforts and also through the Middle East Quartet of international intermediaries – Russia, the United States, the EU and the UN.
