Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during a meeting with Alpha Barry, Burkina Faso's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, Moscow, February 20, 2017
I am happy to welcome you and your delegation in Moscow. Your visit is especially important considering that just two days ago, on February 18, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. Over these 50 years we have become convinced that the peoples of our countries share mutual affection and friendship, and this has influenced the progressive development of interstate relations.
Today we plan to discuss bilateral issues, contacts in the political, trade, economic, cultural and other areas. We know that your delegation includes representatives of other agencies, such as the Investment Promotion Agency, the Ministry of Internal Security, and the Ministry of Defence. We expect that your visit to Russia will be very fruitful.
Of course, we will also discuss international affairs. Of particular interest is your opinion about the situation in the Sahara-Sahel region and in other parts of Africa.
