Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to participants of the Sixth International Conference Russia and Europe: Topical Issues of Contemporary International Journalism

1876-05-10-2017

I cordially welcome the participants of the Sixth International Conference Russia and Europe: Topical Issues of Contemporary International Journalism, which is being held in Budapest this year.

Considering the complicated international situation and the worldwide increase in the amount of information provided, the media community bears special responsibility for providing an impartial, balanced and depoliticised coverage of events around the world. Honest and professional journalism is critically important for improving the situation on our continent and for rallying common efforts towards fighting the threats and challenges that are facing all countries.

We expect your regular conference to contribute to the attainment of these goals. I am confident that discussions on the topics of priority importance for European media outlets, which will be held during this conference, will be constructive and committed, and that they will help you formulate new ideas and initiatives, including those aimed at preventing any attempts to draw new dividing lines and at maintaining neighbourly relations, mutual respect and trust between our nations.

I wish you productive work and all the best.

Sergey Lavrov
