Comment of the Information and Press Department of the MFA of Russia regarding the adoption of resolution on Iran’s Nuclear Programme by the Board of Governors of the IAEA
Сomment of the Information and Press Department of the MFA of Russia regarding the adoption of resolution on Iran's Nuclear Programme by the Board of Governors of the IAEA
On 13 September in Vienna during the regular session of the Board of Governors (BG) of IAEA was adopted the resolution on the situation around Iran's Nuclear Programme with 31 votes "for", one "against" and three abstentions.
We are satisfied with its contents and not only just voted "for", but were among its co-authors. The resolution was supported by the overwhelming majority of 35 members Such results prove the document to be quality, considered and balanced.
We are glad that our western partners, including the "Six", considered the approaches that the Russian and Chinese delegations jointly defended, and which are finally reflected in the IAEA BG resolution on Iran.
It contains statements aimed at encouraging the intensification of the dialogue between Iran and the IAEA and the progressing negotiation process between the "Six" and Iran. They are aimed at promotion of the soonest political and diplomatic settlement of the situation around the Iran's Nuclear Programme based upon the principles of staged approach, reciprocity and in accordance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty. The resolution does not contain the elements of threat or condemnation of anyone.
We expect that all parties will be in a mood for a productive dialogue during further work in that direction.
