Comments and statements by Foreign Ministry Spokesman
Comment by the Information and Press Department on the incident in the Kiev office of RIA Novosti
At 11 am on December 19, a group of 15-20 people rushed into the Kiev office of the RIA Novosti news agency that was conducting a video conference with Ukrainian cities as part of the Congress of Ukrainian Communities in Russia. The incident took place five minutes after the programme began. Calling themselves Maidan activists, members of the group shouted insults and threats and blocked cameras. Their actions were recorded by surveillance cameras.
Called by journalists, private security and law enforcement officers took control of the situation. The personnel were not injured, and no equipment was damaged.
We resent yet another anti-Russian act of radicals and demand that Kiev should strictly abide by its international commitments on defending the lawful rights and interests of the media and ensuring the security of journalists.
We are calling on Dunja Mijatovic, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, to make a principled assessment of this shocking incident.
