About the meeting of the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs S.V. Lavrov and the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation E. Ihsanoglu
MESSAGE TO THE MASS MEDIA
On the 1 October the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, S.V. Lavrov, met in Moscow with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) E. Ihsanoglu, who arrived in Russia to participate in the V International Economic Summit of Russia and the OIC member-countries in Kazan.
S.V. Lavrov and E. Ihsanoglu signed the Framework agreement on cooperation between the Russian Foreign Ministry and the General Secretariat of the OIC, providing for the holding of regular bilateral consultations on key issues on the international agenda, including the issues of regulating conflicts, in which the OIC member- countries are involved.
During the talks, the current aspects of the international situation were discussed and the mutual interest in activation and diversification of the interaction between Russia and the OIC was stressed, including an interest in the promotion of an inter-civilizational and inter-religious dialogue in the economic sphere, in counteraction to terrorism and religious extremism, as well as in securing human rights.
