Press release on the results of bilateral meetings held in the framework of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to the Republic of Cyprus

On May 18-20, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov paid a working visit to the Republic of Cyprus within the framework of the events concluding Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers.

Sergey Lavrov met with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and held talks with Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides.

The meeting with President Anastasiades focused on the prospects for the promotion of Russian-Cypriot relations in various spheres, primarily in trade and economic cooperation, investment partnership, and cultural and humanitarian ties. The parties also analysed the legal framework of bilateral relations. Sergey Lavrov confirmed Russia’s principled position in favour of a comprehensive, fair and viable solution to the Cyprus issue based on UN Security Council resolutions.

During the talks with Foreign Minister Kasoulides, the parties exchanged opinions on the bilateral agenda and also international and regional matters of concern to both countries, such as the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Syria and Ukraine, as well as Russia-EU relations.
