PRESS RELEASE

A working meeting took place in Brussels on April 15 between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Igor Ivanov and NATO Secretary General George Robertson.

Discussions covered the progress in the talks on creating a new Russia-NATO cooperation mechanism - a political Council at 20 - with regard to the scheduled meeting at the highest level in Rome. The focus of attention was questions of imparting to Council at 20 a truly equal character and of building within its framework a political dialogue with a view to implementing the principle of common responsibility for joint decision making and execution. And the necessity was emphasized that each side in Council at 20 should strive for achieving consensus at the stage of decision elaboration.
