On April 15 First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Trubnikov held consultations in Kyiv with the Ukrainian side. He had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Anatoliy Zlenko and talks with Yuri Sergeyev, State Secretary at the Ukrainian MFA, and Deputy State Secretary Igor Kharchenko.

During the consultations, the sides considered questions of bilateral relations and a number of international problems. They paid special attention to the situation in Transnistrian settlement, in which, as is known, Russia and Ukraine act together with the OSCE as co-mediators. The exchange of views showed a broad identity of the positions on the negotiation process, and the necessity to get it renewed as soon as possible on a systematic and regular basis. Very similar were the thoughts of the sides about the role which Russia and Ukraine are called upon to play as the generally recognized guarantors of the results of a future political settlement of this regional problem.

It was decided to carry on the dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries on the above problems at different levels.
