Comment by the Information and Press Department on the terrorist attack in Sri Lanka
On the morning of April 21 explosions in several hotels and Catholic churches in Sri Lanka killed about 150 and injured more than 400 people. Most of the attack targets are located in the city of Colombo. The tourist areas on the island were not affected.
According to preliminary reports there are no Russians among the victims. The Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka keeps in touch with the local law enforcement agencies and is ready to provide Russian citizens with any necessary support.
We are outraged by this inhuman terrorist attack, which certainly cannot be justified. We express our heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, and we would like to wish a speedy recovery to those who were wounded.
The tragic events in Sri Lanka once again confirm the need to consolidate the efforts of the international community in the fight against international terrorism.
