Press release on a meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, India and China (RIC)
On February 27, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi held the 16th meeting in the RIC format at Wuzhen, China.
The ministers discussed various aspects of trilateral interaction on the key topics of the global and regional agenda. They expressed a common resolve to deepen coordination in the trilateral format at international and regional organisations.
This exchange of opinions has confirmed the similarity or coincidence of the three countries’ positions on a broad range of subjects related to the strengthening of international law and the multilateral foundations of the current world order, plus the development of the architecture of equal and indivisible security in the Asia Pacific region. The ministers focused on the struggle against international terrorism, extremism and illegal drug trafficking, as well as ensuring international cybersecurity.
They paid especially close attention to international matters, such as developments around Venezuela and in the Middle East and North Africa, primarily in the context of Syrian settlement, the situation in Yemen, Afghanistan and the Korean Peninsula, as well as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear issue.
The ministers adopted a Joint Communique following the event.
They agreed that the next meeting of the RIC foreign ministers would be held in Russia in 2020.
