Press release on the 74th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific
On May 11-16, Bangkok hosted the 74th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). A Russian interdepartmental delegation at the session was led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to ESCAP Kirill Barsky.
The participants in the session approved the strategic direction of ESCAP’s work with regard to poverty reduction, social development, transport, trade, the environment, energy, statistics, information and communication technology, as well as disaster risk reduction. Since the theme topic of the session was Inequality in the Era of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the participants focused on sustainable and inclusive socioeconomic development in Asia Pacific.
The participants adopted 11 resolutions, four of them proposed by Russia. They concerned the approval of the outcome of the Second Asian and Pacific Energy Forum, the development of dry ports of international significance, regional efforts to improve road safety and the implementation of the Ministerial Declaration adopted at the seventh Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development for Asia and the Pacific.
