Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Moscow, May 16, 2018
Madam Minister, dear friends,
Welcome to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We met last September in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, and are happy to welcome you here in the Russian Federation as Minister of Foreign Affairs. You have already been here, but as Minister of Defence.
We are very glad that we have this opportunity during your visit to look at ways to strengthen our continued strategic partnership in the spirit of the agreements that have been reached between Presidents of Russia and Ecuador Vladimir Putin and Lenin Moreno. Over the past few months, they have exchanged a series of messages confirming their commitment to continuing and deepening cooperation in all areas.
On May 14 and 15, you participated in the fifth meeting of the Russian-Ecuadorean Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation as its co-chair; I am aware that the decisions you have coordinated at the Intergovernmental Commission truly aim to diversify trade, expand the framework of bilateral agreements, and deepen cooperation in energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and in information and communication technologies.
Today we also plan to discuss our interaction in international organisations, the UN, as well as Russia's relations with regional integration associations in South America.
We are grateful to Ecuador for its continued support of our contacts with the supranational groups on your continent.
Once again, welcome.
