Mr Deputy President,

Colleagues, friends,

We are very glad at the opportunity to have a meeting with you which will continue the series of active contacts between our countries at the top and high levels.

We value our relations, which began during the fight against apartheid, when the people of South Africa were struggling for the evolvement of their state, and we were always by their side.

We have many important upcoming contacts between our presidents and between various ministries and departments. It is remarkable that this year we will develop our cooperation during the celebrations marking Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday.

During their recent talks on March 23, our presidents agreed to continue the policy of comprehensively developing our relations in all areas, and, of course, to hold a special meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, which will take place in late July in Johannesburg. We will make every effort to support the programme of South Africa's BRICS chairmanship for a successful upcoming summit.
