Press release on a meeting of the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad
On April 16, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov chaired the latest meeting of the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad.
The participants examined the implementation of the state programme to facilitate the voluntary resettlement of compatriots living abroad to the Russian Federation. Currently, the programme is being implemented in 61 Russian regions. The incoming data show that compatriots living abroad are still interested in moving to Russia. Last year, 118,606 participants and their family members arrived in Russia and registered at the offices of the Russian Interior Ministry under the state programme.
The Commission adopted the comprehensive plan to implement the Russian state programme with respect to Russian nationals living abroad for 2018-2020. The document is based on proposals made by interested agencies and public organisations and serves as a tool for the coordination of joint efforts in this important area.
The participants discussed the Foreign Ministry’s report on the work done by Russia’s federal and regional executive agencies to implement the 2017 state policy regarding Russian nationals abroad.
They also approved the concept of the sixth World Congress of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad, scheduled for October-November 2018.
