Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to the Republic of Namibia
On March 5, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who has arrived in Windhoek on a working visit, met with President of the Republic of Namibia Hage Geingob and held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the steady development of the trust-based Russian-Namibian political dialogue and highlighted their mutual intention to strengthen cooperation on the international stage aimed at maintaining global and regional stability. They focused on the situation in Africa. The Russian Foreign Minister confirmed Russia’s firm position on promoting the settlement of conflicts and crises in Africa and finding solutions to the African countries’ social and economic problems based on these countries’ policy and with active support from the international community.
The parties emphasised their countries’ resolve to continue to strengthen mutually beneficial relations in trade, as well as in the economy, investment, culture and other areas. In this context, they pointed out the importance of the upcoming eighth meeting of the Russian-Namibian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which will be held this year to discuss promising partnership trends in mining, energy, agriculture, telecommunications and tourism.
