Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during a meeting with President of Namibia Hage Geingob, Windhoek, March 5, 2018
It is hard to underestimate the friendship which our country and Namibia developed long before your independence. We highly appreciate the way Namibians keep the memory of those days of the common fight for your country’s independence. We deeply respect the links of brotherhood which we established in those days and which certainly provide a strong foundation for the friendship between our two peoples.
My visit to Namibia is based on our mutual intention to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas. Thank you very much for receiving last year Yury Trutnev, our Deputy Prime Minister and co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, and our Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov. Those visits allowed us to work out a great number of issues and further develop economic cooperation.
Today we had a very good discussion focused on the importance of making all our agreements work.
I am very pleased with today’s talks, during which President Geingob guaranteed that everything we had discussed will be further implemented. I would like to convey best regards and best wishes from President Putin to you, Mr President, and say that he hopes that our relations with Namibia will only grow stronger.
