Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov’s meeting with leaders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
On December 6, Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov was received by the King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh. Mr Bogdanov was also received by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, First Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs and Minister of Defence. He also had a detailed exchange of views with the country’s Foreign Minister, Adel Al Jubeir.
During their conversations, the officials focused on the implementation of the comprehensive agreements reached during the October 4-8, 2017 state visit by the King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to the Russian Federation. They noted successful joint work in this area, including active use of the mechanism of the Russia-Saudi Arabia Inter-Governmental Commission, which demonstrates its effectiveness. Moscow and Riyadh confirmed their mutual desire to further expand confidential political dialogue regarding key aspects on the global and regional agendas. They noted their shared interest in expanded mutually beneficial trade and economic and energy cooperation, including cooperation in the OPEC + format to stabilise the global hydrocarbons market, as well as investment, industrial, agricultural, cultural-humanitarian cooperation and cooperation in other promising areas.
They compared notes on Middle East issues in great detail and focused on the situation in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, the Persian Gulf zone and on the Palestinian territories. In this context, Russia and Saudi Arabia confirmed their invariable commitment to principles of international law, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, efforts to resolve persisting conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa through peaceful means and all-inclusive national dialogue, as well as by simultaneously combating all manifestations of terrorism in a resolute manner. They also underscored the need for consolidated efforts to improve the regional humanitarian situation and to promote inter-faith and inter-civilisational dialogue.
