Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with ambassadors of Latin American and Caribbean countries accredited in Moscow
On December 6, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a traditional meeting with the heads of the diplomatic missions of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries accredited in Moscow.
The meeting participants discussed the current state of affairs and outlined promising areas for further cooperation between Russia and the LAC region. They also emphasised the fact of a consistently improving political dialogue, intensifying trade and economic cooperation and expanding cultural and humanitarian contacts. They noted that the Russian-Latin American cooperation rested on the firm foundation of their commitment to international law, principles of non-interference in internal affairs, multilateral diplomacy, maintaining a balance of interests in international relations, and strengthening global security and stability. The parties expressed satisfaction with the expansion of mutual visa-free travel, growing interaction in the fight against new challenges and threats, and the establishment of practical cooperation in preventing and eliminating the consequences of natural disasters.
Special mention was made of advancing cooperation in international organisations, expanding business contacts, implementation of education programmes and launching of professional training courses.
They also considered some of the most pressing regional and international issues, including cooperation at the UN.
