Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of Lebanon Gebran Bassil
On November 17, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of Lebanon Gebran Bassil, who is in Moscow on a short working visit.
During the conversation, the officials discussed the situation in and around Lebanon. Mr Bassil informed Mr Lavrov about the efforts of the Lebanese leadership to maintain the unity of Lebanese society and internal stability and to prevent Lebanon from becoming a field for foreign forces to settle their geopolitical scores.
Russia reaffirmed its unwavering position in support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability of the Lebanese Republic, including the resolution of all issues on the national agenda by the Lebanese people through an inclusive dialogue, taking into accounts the interests of all leading political forces and religious groups. There can be no place for foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs that threatens to disrupt the existing internal balance. Mr Lavrov noted that Russia is interested in a strong and stable Lebanon that can help reinforce international and regional security.
