Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov’s meeting with a delegation of Fatah leaders
On November 13, Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov received a delegation of the Palestinian movement Fatah leaders consisting of Jibril Rajoub, the Executive Secretary of the Central Committee, and Hussein al-Sheikh, Central Committee member, who are in Moscow on a working visit.
During the talks, the officials thoroughly discussed the Palestinian-Israeli settlement process and the situation on Palestinian territories with a focus on the goal of overcoming the internal Palestinian rift in light of the notable positive shift that has taken place recently on this track. The representatives of the Fatah Central Committee expressed gratitude to Russia for its consistent efforts in the interests of restoring Palestinian national unity as a necessary condition for realising the Palestinian people’s legitimate aspirations.
The Russian party reaffirmed the principled position in favour of fulfilling all intra-Palestinian agreements with the aim of achieving real unity on the Palestinian Liberation Organisation’s political platform and significantly improving the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Such developments are meant to break the current deadlock in the Middle East peace process and support constructive Palestinian-Israeli talks within the well-established international legal framework.
