Comment by the Information and Press Department on Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius Seetanah Lutchmeenaraidoo’s working visit to Russia
On November 14, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius Seetanah Lutchmeenaraidoo, who will be in Russia on a working visit on November 12−14.
The ministers will discuss Russian-Mauritian ties in politics, trade, the economy, culture and other areas. They will focus on promoting mutually beneficial partnership in information technology, transport, fishing, port infrastructure, tourism and personnel training, as well as improving the legal framework of bilateral relations.
The foreign ministers will also hold an in-depth exchange of opinions on key issues on the international and regional agendas, primarily the prevention and settlement of crisis situations in Africa and the Middle East, as well as the fight against piracy in the northwest Indian Ocean and against international terrorism in Africa.
Russia and Mauritius have enjoyed friendly relations for years and are developing a political dialogue. The two countries have similar or coinciding views on the idea of a safer and fairer system of international relations and stronger role of the UN and its Security Council. Moscow and Port Louis maintain positive interaction at the UN and other influential international organisations.
We hope that the upcoming visit by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius Seetanah Lutchmeenaraidoo will give a fresh impetus to our joint efforts to build up cooperation in many spheres.
