Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Alexey Meshkov’s political consultations with Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Cyprus Alexandros Zenon
On September 14, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexey Meshkov and Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Cyprus Alexandros Zenon met in Moscow for political consultations.
They held in-depth talks concerning the bilateral political dialogue, the current state of bilateral relations and their future, primarily the improvement of the legal framework for bilateral ties as well as trade and economic cooperation.
The discussion on European and regional problems has shown that Russia and the Republic of Cyprus have similar views on key international topics, such as the absence of any alternative to a peaceful settlement of the crises in the Middle East and Ukraine. The officials expressed their appreciation for the fruitful cooperation of their countries at international organisations.
It was underscored during the consultations that Russia’s position on a settlement in Cyprus amounted to support for the UN-led intra-Cypriot negotiations aimed at finding a comprehensive, fair and viable solution based on UN Security Council resolutions in the interests of both Cypriot communities.
