Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at a meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al Safadi, Amman, September 11, 2017
Thank you very much, Ayman,
It is a pleasure to be here again.
We started our discussions yesterday, they were very friendly and open, as it should be between friends. The relationships are very solid; they are based on mutual trust, on the very good understanding between His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. And I will convey best wishes from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to His Majesty as we meet with him today.
We believe that there are so many things that link us together. I have just met with a group of people who graduated from universities in our country; six of them are members of the Parliament. There is a friendship society, there is an association of the graduates, they set an association of the graduates from medical universities. They are dedicated to promoting the links between our two countries.
Special thanks to His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and to the Government of Jordan for the special attention paid to the Russian pilgrims to the holy sites.
We highly appreciate the role of Jordan in the Middle East situation, be it Syria, be it (which is not less important) the status of Jerusalem.
