Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand Don Pramudwinai, Bangkok, August 10, 2017
I am happy to have this new meeting with you. I would like to convey once again our condolences on the demise in October last year of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who earned sincere love from his subjects and respect all over the world.
We are interested in the promotion of the most extensive multifaceted cooperation with the Kingdom of Thailand, our oldest partner in Southeast Asia. This year, we are marking the 120th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. A number of major events held both in Thailand and the Russian Federation are dedicated to this occasion.
In this connection, I would like to express gratitude for your personal participation in the Russian-Thai festival held in Bangkok not so long ago. Other important events in the cultural and humanitarian sphere are pending before the end of the year. I am confident that one of the key interests of our two peoples is to help promote human contacts.
