Press release on the meeting of Russian Ambassadors to Caspian states
On May 17-18, State Secretary, Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin chaired a meeting of Russian Ambassadors to Caspian states in Astrakhan, which was attended by Astrakhan Region Governor Alexander Zhilkin, the heads of a number of regional authorities and representatives of the Central Executive Office of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The participants conducted an in-depth analysis of the implementation of instructions issued by the leaders of Caspian states following the Fourth Caspian Summit held in Astrakhan in September 2014. They also determined priority tasks for the period up to the Fifth Caspian Summit in Kazakhstan: finalising the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, stepping up security, economic and environmental cooperation of the coastal states, and bolstering cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The participants exchanged views on issues of the regional agenda, improving the coordination of activities of the relevant Russian foreign missions and the centre, and improving interaction between the Foreign Ministry and Russia’s Caspian regions.
