Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s working visit to Abkhazia
On April 18–19, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made a working visit to the Republic of Abkhazia.
He held talks with President of Abkhazia Raul Khadjimba and Foreign Minister Daur Kove to discuss the further strengthening of bilateral relations and the main areas of cooperation on regional and international issues, including participation in the Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus. These discussions have shown that Russia and Abkhazia hold similar or identical views on the issues under discussion and are resolved to continue to strengthen their multifaceted bilateral cooperation.
Sergey Lavrov also met with Prime Minister of Abkhazia Beslan Bartsits and attended the opening ceremony of the Russian Embassy’s new compound in Abkhazia.
The Russian Foreign Minister’s visit to the Republic of Abkhazia has given a fresh impetus to Russian-Abkhazian relations based on the principles of alliance and strategic partnership.
