Press release on the entry into force of the protocol on amendments to the Annex to the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Facilitation of Mutual Travel for Border Area Residents of Russia and Norway
The Protocol amending the Annex to the November 2, 2010 Intergovernmental Agreement Between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway on the Facilitation of Mutual Travel for Border Area Residents of Russia and Norway, signed on January 20, 2016 in Moscow, will become effective on March 4, 2017.
The Protocol has included the part of the Norwegian village of Neiden, which is located beyond the 30-kilometre border area of Norway, in the agreement. As soon as the Protocol enters into force, the residents of Neiden will be able to use the facilitated regime to travel to the border areas of Russia. The residents of the Russian border area, which includes the Municipalities of Nickel and Pechenga, which lie within a 30 km zone from the state border between Russia and Norway, as well as the Municipalities of Zapoliarniy and Korzunovo, will be able to visit the said part of the village of Neiden and the monument to Soviet soldiers who died there during the Second World War located there.
