Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with US Secretary of State John Kerry
On October 24, the United States initiated a call between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry.
The situation in Syria was the focus of the discussion. Sergey Lavrov pointed out that the illegal armed formations occupying the eastern part of Aleppo responded to the humanitarian pause introduced by the Syrian authorities by firing on civilians who tried to escape from the city and launching new attacks. Mr Lavrov once again urged the United States to fulfil its commitment to separate US-backed “moderate” opposition forces from terrorist groups. The officials agreed that experts would keep looking for ways to stabilise the situation in Aleppo on these terms.
They also discussed other international issues including the situation in Iraq and aspects of bilateral relations.
