Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov’s meeting with UN Secretary-General Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy
On September 27, Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov met with UN Secretary-General Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy in Moscow.
The officials continued their exchange of opinions on a whole range of issues concerning the settlement in Syria, focusing on the results of the sixth international meeting on Syria held on September 14-15 in Astana, during which the parties concluded the process of setting up four de-escalation zones.
The Russian side emphasised that creating such zones opens up new opportunities for providing humanitarian assistance to the people in need via the UN, as well as for returning refugees and internally displaced persons. This creates favourable conditions for advancing the process of political settlement. In this context, the parties agreed on the importance of building on the momentum of the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva while preserving their inclusive character.
