Press release on the Orthodox Easter reception held at the Foreign Ministry
On June 2, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hosted a reception marking Orthodox Easter at the reception house of the Russian Foreign Ministry. The event was attended by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church, representatives of the traditional religions of Russia, Russian government and public figures and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
The Minister wished the Patriarch and all those present a happy Easter, and expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and the Russian Orthodox Church in consolidating the moral foundation of international relations, expanding cultural and spiritual ties with our compatriots abroad, and creating an atmosphere of trust and mutual respects among nations.
In his address, Mr Lavrov spoke about the most urgent international issues, including the oppression of Christians in countries of the Middle East, North Africa and other regions of the world, the migration crisis in Europe and developments in Ukraine. He emphasised the historic nature of the Patriarch’s meeting with Pope Francis.
