Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC)
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavuşoglu, Sochi, July 1, 2016
Thank you for accepting our invitation and coming to the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). Today, we have discussed the upcoming anniversary of the organisation, which was founded in Istanbul in 1992. I hope that we will approach its 25th anniversary with good results in this sphere.
Also, I appreciate this opportunity to hold a bilateral meeting with you, following contacts between the presidents of our countries. We hope that these contacts, which took place after Russian President Vladimir Putin received a letter from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and after their telephone conversation a few days ago, have set the right tone for practical steps towards normalising our relations.
I believe that today we have a good opportunity to discuss some aspects related to this process.
