On September 28, a working meeting of foreign ministers from the member countries of the intergovernmental regional forum Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), comprising 31 Asia-Pacific and Middle East states, took place in New York on the sidelines of the 64th General Assembly session.

The meeting examined the course of the preparations for the Eighth Annual ACD Foreign Ministers' Meeting to be held in Colombo on October 15-16, 2009. Participants paid the main attention to questions of further intensification of the work in specific areas of activity of this association.

On the proposal of the current ACD Chairman – Sri Lanka – an exchange of views took place on the coordination of international efforts in surmounting the consequences of the global financial and economic crisis. Agreement was reached to continue to devote priority attention to this topical problem for all countries.

Russia considers the Asia Cooperation Dialogue an important platform for discussion of a broad range of issues and for the promotion of practical collaboration among the region's countries and is ready to actively participate in the work of this Forum.
